The Man In The Shop

The Man in the Shop
The man in the shop he taught me a lot
But I only met him twice
I’d walked past his door for 20 years or more
I never thought about his life
I brought him my deck, my dad’s old Dansette
In need of TLC
The door gave a ring and I entered in
It felt like 1963
A friend of mine said all the dreams are dead
They were over by ‘72
The only dream left that we couldn’t wreck
Is the one we doubt is true
Now it’s nothing like the old days
But I can’t go back in time
Things were different back in those days
But they never will be mine
It’s nothing like the old days
I was born at the wrong time
Things were different back in those days
They’re always on my mind
The shop was top to floor in old amps and more
He said he liked to work on these
Because you never get bored with the old circuit boards
But now it’s mostly LCDs
He said when he was young his friend had one
They used to bring their records round
And happily drinking coffee or tea
They’d listen to the sounds
A friend of mine said all the dreams are dead
They were over by ‘72
The only dream left that we couldn’t wreck
Is the one we doubt is true
Now it’s nothing like the old days
But I can’t go back in time
Things were different back in those days
But they never will be mine
It’s nothing like the old days
I was born at the wrong time
Things were different back in those days
They’re always on my mind
A black and white movie for company
His glasses balanced on his nose
He gave me a card I asked him what was the charge
He said fifty pounds or so
He rang next week, he said he gave it a tweak
The parts weren’t hard to trace
So I called right in, I thought that people like him
Can never be replaced
A friend of mine said all the dreams are dead
They were over by ‘72
The only dream left that we couldn’t wreck
Is the one we doubt is true
Now it’s nothing like the old days
But I can’t go back in time
Things were different back in those days
But they never will be mine
It’s nothing like the old days
I was born at the wrong time
Things were different back in those days
He said, “It’s only in your mind.”

Years Ago, Nancy

Years Ago, Nancy
Years ago, Nancy do you remember the time we spent
Years ago, Nancy there was rain coming through my tent
Years ago, Nancy you cried the day I went
Maybe you recall that we really had a ball but you never knew how much it meant
Now I came down to a West Country town
In the summer of ‘93
And Nancy was a girl with a strong head of curls
She was staying at a B & B
I saw her on the beach but she looked just out of reach
When she walked on over to me
She asked me for a light I didn’t put up a fight
And it was easy as A, B, C
Years ago, Nancy do you remember the time we spent
Years ago, Nancy there was rain coming through my tent
Years ago, Nancy you cried the day I went
Maybe you recall that we really had a ball but you never knew how much it meant
Now Nancy was bolder and a couple years older
And she knew how to hold her drink
I let out an “ooh” when I saw her tattoo because it wasn’t where you first might think
She’d had boys before and she knew so much more and she didn’t so much as blink
But it went to my head, I almost fell out of bed
When she gave me one of her winks
Years ago, Nancy do you remember the time we spent
Years ago, Nancy there was rain coming through my tent
Years ago, Nancy you cried the day I went
Maybe you recall that we really had a ball but you never knew how much it meant
When the day came to go it was a sad tale of woe but she left me without any doubt
Because his name was Steve and she really couldn’t leave and he’d kill me if he ever found out
Well I pleaded with her so that I’d never let her go but she said we were just messing about
So I said fare thee well and I never would tell 'cos I didn’t fancy being knocked out
Years ago, Nancy do you remember the time we spent
Years ago, Nancy there was rain coming through my tent
Years ago, Nancy you cried the day I went
Maybe you recall that we really had a ball but you never knew how much it meant
Years ago, Nancy do you remember the time we spent
Years ago, Nancy you could say it was a blessed event
Years ago, Nancy so I sing you this sad lament
Maybe you recall that we really had a ball but you never knew how much it meant
Maybe you recall that we really had a ball but you never knew how much it meant

We Want Justice

We Want Justice
And what if I refuse to be
Your lifelong hated enemy?
Our Father’s house has many rooms
Enough for me enough for you
My father died when I was six
He built our house with home made bricks
They tore it down he dared to fight
Put in the ground for his birthright
Tick tock tick tock when will it will stop
No answer can turn back the clock
Our blood runs deep into this clay
Our children weep and we say
Oh we want Justice
The nations wring their hands and pray
Then give a billion dollars aid
They peddle peace they claim to care
When our land’s snatched its laissez-faire
I still retain my father’s key
Preserve his dreams of being free
And what if I refuse to be
Your lifelong hated enemy?
Tick tock tick tock when will it will stop
The body count the mental rot
Our blood runs deep into this clay
Our children weep and we say
Oh we want Justice
Sing it loud, sing it free
God loves us all, God loves us all equally

Fe Fie Fo Fum!

Fe Fie Foe Fum!
I’ve already set you free
Know the Truth and come to me
You can live in Paradise
You have no idea how nice
Walk towards my light and you will see
Fe Fie Fo Fum!
I don’t need the blood of anyone
Be he alive or be he dead I’ve ground his soul in living bread
Call upon my name for you are saved
Hell is empty, nothing in the grave
Wherever you go I am there
Nothing keeps you from my care
Hear the Good News you will be amazed
Fe Fie Fo Fum!
I don’t need the blood of anyone
Be he alive or be he dead I’ve ground his soul in living bread

If You Want Me

If You Want Me
I don’t care anymore
I’m not scared anymore
If I could only be the man you wanted me to be
If you could only be the one who thinks the same as me
If we could only work out how to get from A to B
But I’ll be there if you want me
I’ll be there when your clouds are turning grey
I’ll be there if you want me
Any time, any place, any day
And I know I let you down
It’s too late to turn it round
I will not deny I found it difficult to be
The man I think inside you always wanted me to be
But I won't criticise you choosing him instead of me
But I’ll be there if you want me
I’ll be there when your clouds are turning grey
I’ll be there if you want me
Any time, any place, any day

Bella Ciao
And in the morning I was awoken
Oh Bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
And in the morning I was awoken
And found the enemy was here.
Oh Partisan, come take me with you
Oh Bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
Oh Partisan, come take me with you
Because I am ready to die
And if I die, fighting for freedom
Oh Bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
And if I die, fighting for freedom
Then you must come and bury me
Bury me high up, upon the mountain
Oh Bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
Bury me high up, upon the mountain
Under the shade of a lovely flower
So all the people who pass by that way
Oh Bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
So all the people who pass by that way
Will say "Oh see that lovely flower! – "
"Ah that's the flower of the freedom fighter – "
Oh Bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
"Ah that's the flower of the freedom fighter
Who gave his life for liberty!"

Bird
The sun is shining
But not on me
The rain keeps pouring down on me
The winter’s over
But still I see
The stormclouds hanging over me
If I was a bird up in the sky
I would fly on home to you
But I’m not a bird and I can’t fly
I’m alone I wonder why
My eyes can see
My ears can hear
My hands can touch but you’re not near
How will I know you?
Send me a sign
Turn my water into wine
If I was a bird up in the sky
I would fly on home to you
But I’m not a bird and I can’t fly
I’m alone I wonder why

Are You In?
03:55
|
|||
Are You In?
We’ve got something on our minds today
And we've got to tell the world that it won't go away
And if you tell me that society’s OK
And that nothing needs to change here then for you I'll pray
We're changing our reality
It's time for justice and equality
Are you in are you out
We can win there's no doubt
Let’s begin it and shout
We can turn it about
Are you in are you out
We can win there’s no doubt
Let’s get in get them out
We can turn this about
They’re rich and powerful but numbers make the change
And the last will be the first when our land’s rearranged
And you can choose to look the other way
But we’re gonna show the big dogs that they’ve had their day
We're changing our reality
It's time for justice and equality
Are you in are you out
We can win there's no doubt
Let’s begin it and shout
We can turn it about
Are you in are you out
We can win there’s no doubt
Let’s get in get them out
We can turn this about
Sometimes these days you gotta stand up for your rights
Sometimes these days you gotta take a stand and fight

The Star Carol

The Star Carol
Long years ago on a deep winter night
High in the heavens a star shone bright
While in a manger a wee baby lay
Sweetly asleep on a bed of hay
Jesus our Lord was that baby so small,
Laid down to sleep in a humble stall
Then came the star and it stood overhead
Shedding its light 'round his little head
Dear baby Jesus, how tiny thou art
I'll make a place for thee in my heart
And when the stars in the heavens I see
Ever and always I'd think of thee
