I've recorded this track more times than any other song I've written. This one is built on the original demo version that Magda and I began recording at home in about 2003 and retains her bass line. In fact, many of the songs on 'Carruthers Gets Bashed' began life as four track cassette demos to which I added more parts on the DP01-FX. I was never satisfied with this version of A Better Way, however. I knew it was one of my best songs and I just couldn't do it justice playing all the parts myself with my basic home recording gear. I recorded it with Karmatruffle in 2005 on our first EP 'She's Not All That', but as I didn't own the rights to the sound recording I took the opportunity to record another version for my 'best of' compilation 'A Taste of Blake' in 2010. I've included that as a bonus track, together with the Andy Rowland remix.
