about

I seem to remember this as another one turned down by Karmatruffle. I'm really happy with the way this came out. I was getting better at recording the drums. After experimenting with different mic placements, I concluded that one overhead mic worked best. Always a mistake to write about technology in lyrics though - who doesn't check their emails on their phone these days?? At the time this was written it was the height of ostentation! Sentiment still relevant today, mind - I was and am massively influenced by Bill Hicks: "If you're in marketing or advertising kill yourselves". The original demo had a Doors-y organ solo but for some reason I recorded it with guitar instead. I was intending to include it as a bonus track but I can't find the tape.

lyrics

He’s got a sim card full of numbers
He checks his emails on his phone
But it seems to suggest
That he just ain’t passed the test
He’s alone

He’s got a widescreen television
In his secondary home
But man he’s under attack
And he can’t live with the fact
He’s alone

Marketing man we seen you coming
Marketing man we got you running
Change your plan
Marketing man

He’s got a fistful of prescriptions
He’s got a lungful of thick black fear
And man he’s walking the track
But there’s a hound at his back
And it’s near

He had a first class education
He used a false start to get ahead
But now he’s got to the top
He’s got a long way to drop
When he’d dead

Marketing man we seen you coming
Marketing man we got you running
Change your plan
Marketing man
