I adopt a narrative voice for this song. Please don't be under the illusion that the lyrics reflect my religious beliefs - they most certainly don't. The voice is that of a fundamentalist. I like writing songs from the perspective of different characters. This song was written in Cheltenham - a town with a strong evangelical foundation - it took me nine months to find a church which didn't hold fundamentalist beliefs.
lyrics
Soon it's all over, no more room for philosophical manoeuvre
You didn't listen to the knocking on your door
Now you can't hear the Word you need anymore
It's such a shame, such a shame, such a big, big shame
Such a shame, such a shame, such a big, big shame
Such a shame, such a shame, such a crying shame for you
You tell me you've reached your goal
So tell me the price you paid for your soul
You didn't listen to the knocking on your door
Now you can't hear the Word you need anymore
It's such a shame, such a shame, such a big, big shame
Such a shame, such a shame, such a big, big shame
Such a shame, such a shame, such a crying shame for you

Being a singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist/home recorder myself, and largely inspired by The Frond, I appreciate the amount of talent that has gone into creating this amazing work of art. Genius! Blake
Gorgeous album full of charm and wit, wonderful imagery, observations on provincial British life, characters brought to life with the skill of a novelist and nods to the ghosts of a visionary Albion. Blake
Choochtown is possibly the greatest, most creative album by one person I've ever heard. It's like a Raymond Chandler whodunnit which is in turns funny, romantic, violent, scary & uplifting. Gotta get! Blake
