I used to listen to 'Aretha's Gold' on vinyl all the time and this song is partly about her and partly a fantasy about a siren-like girl whose charms are irresistible, continuing the theme of You're Gonna Let Me Down Again. In hindsight I've clearly moved from the heartbroken songs of Solomon's Tump to a more bitter and darker attitude to the break-up of my previous relationship.
