about

I wrote this song when I was living in Stow-on-the-Wold in 2002. I was going for that sixties rnb/mod/garage/psychedelic vibe. Not sure it really worked but at least I managed to namecheck Thomas Cranmer. This song was a staple of The Dandelions' live set - the precursor to Karmatruffle.

lyrics

In a while I will see the things that I don't understand
So I smile and I look at you and take you by the hand
That has strayed but girl you're not Sir Thomas Cranmer
And it's late and I got a thousand things much better to do because

I'm moving up I'm leaving town
Gotta quit these circles spinning round and round
I'm moving up to the higher ground
Gotta quit these circles spinning round and round

Late for work as I see the bus pull off in the distance
And my shirt it has creases in but I don't give a sixpence
Gonna phone Mrs Jones and tell her that I quit
Her job's shit and I gotta thousand things less boring to do because

I'm moving up I'm leaving town
Gotta quit these circles spinning round and round
I'm moving up to the higher ground
Gotta quit these circles spinning round and round

Watch all the circles spinning round and round
Watch all the people sinking down down down

I'm moving up I'm leaving town
Gotta quit these circles spinning round and round
I'm moving up to the higher ground
Gotta quit these circles spinning round and round
