about

I remember playing this track to my wife on acoustic guitar in our bedroom at our house in Melksham. I wasn't fond of the recorded version I made shortly afterwards but I quite like the Simon & Garfunkel Parsley Sage Rosemary & Thyme era feel to it now. There was even a harpsichord solo on the first version, which I've included as a bonus track with the album download, but I felt it was a bit too twee like that at the time. I've also included a live version I recorded with The Bearfield Commune as a bonus track with Amy Evans's gorgeous harmony line on the chorus.

lyrics

She likes to sit amid the flowers
And read Virginia Wolff's The Hours
She wants to finish it one day
She wants to throw it all away anyway

Come to me all ye broken hearted lovers
Come to me and I will give you rest
Come to me all you broken hearted lovers
Your broken hearted souls I'll rest

He likes to walk along the railway line
He likes to think of their first valentine
He knows she must be far away
He couldn't find the words to say anyway

They like to stand among the poplar trees
And feel the sun and watch the dancing leaves
The earth that in a mound is laid
The earth that teaches us we're clay anyway
