about

When I was going through the tapes I came across a lot of low fidelity early Karma Truffle recordings made at band rehearsals. These fascinated me because I had forgotten how heavy the band was when it started out in its original power-trio line-up of me, Magda and Amanda. Magda's material was always very heavy and she influenced me to write songs like 'When He Comes', 'Never get To Heaven' and 'Pretty Big' (later recorded for The Parousia LP, with new lyrics for the latter as 'Panic Attack'.) I always liked 'Don't Ask', especially as it utilised the riff from Bad News's 'Warriors of Genghis Khan', and I was delighted to discover a four track recording of it we'd made. I added some suitable drum parts using Logic to complete a vision of what it may have sounded like had we actually taken it into the studio then.

lyrics

Don't Ask

Don't ask I won't tell you
Better left unsaid
Leave it in the shadows
Pretend that it's dead

But when I'm with you
We can pretend it isn't true
It doesn't matter what you say
It's never going to go away

It's in the past
But it catches up fast
So don't ask

Daylight won't protect you
Summer never stays
In the end it will get you
No-one gets away

But when I'm with you
We can pretend it isn't true
It doesn't matter what you say
It's never going to go away

It's in the past
But it catches up fast
So don't ask

I can see it coming
I can feel it coming
I can feel it coming
I can see it coming
