about
Written at about the same time as 'A Better Way' (2003) and featured with this song in Karmatruffle's earliest shows. I started the album with these two as they are still the first and second songs in my electric set. I was listening to The Jeevas' first album a lot when I wrote this. At that time our live set would include a cover of their version of The Undertones' 'You Got My Number', Love's 'A House Is Not A Motel' and The Bevis Frond's 'Anodyne'. This version was recorded at Farmyard Studios, Bourton-on-the-Water in 2005 with the last incarnation of Karmatruffle for the What You Do Comes Back To You LP. I edited the intro as I play it like this now.
lyrics
Such a Shame
Soon it's all over, no more room for philosophical manoeuvre
You didn't listen to the knocking on your door
Now you can't hear the Word you need anymore
It's such a shame, such a shame, such a big, big shame
Such a shame, such a shame, such a big, big shame
Such a shame, such a shame, such a crying shame for you
You tell me you've reached your goal
So tell me the price you paid for your soul
You didn't listen to the knocking on your door
Now you can't hear the Word you need anymore
It's such a shame, such a shame, such a big, big shame
Such a shame, such a shame, such a big, big shame
Such a shame, such a shame, such a crying shame for you

Being a singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist/home recorder myself, and largely inspired by The Frond, I appreciate the amount of talent that has gone into creating this amazing work of art. Genius! Blake
Gorgeous album full of charm and wit, wonderful imagery, observations on provincial British life, characters brought to life with the skill of a novelist and nods to the ghosts of a visionary Albion. Blake
Choochtown is possibly the greatest, most creative album by one person I've ever heard. It's like a Raymond Chandler whodunnit which is in turns funny, romantic, violent, scary & uplifting. Gotta get! Blake
“Chaos Wonderland” is an expansive, probing album that weds the shimmering approach of psych rock to cinematic Britpop at its best. Bandcamp New & Notable Aug 23, 2020
